Mr David James Nicholson BA Hons (Oxon)

Yesterday was my degree ceremony at Oxford so I now officially have a degree.

A walk through Oxford in the heavy rain to the Sheldonian Theatre wearing sub fusc was followed by listening to a lot of latin, and seeing quite a lot of bowing. There was then reception and lunch, all with free wine. All this featured a lot of photography.

As for the evening entertainment afterwards, where else would we go other than the Purple Turtle?

Slashdot-ed!

My analysis of the HSBC "flaw" yesterday has sparked quite a lot of interest.

The writer of the original story in the Guardian, Bobbie Johnson contacted me to discuss the situation in general and my post further. He has written a follow-up piece today (in which I am the "independent internet [sic] security expert" mentioned). In my opinion to still puts too much focus on HSBC and not on keylogging in general, although I did get the impression Bobbie has an understanding of the wider picture and aims to write more on that.

Also, Slashdot accepted my submission and a link to my post was featured on Slashdot. This resulted in a lot of traffic, however my server did stand up against the "Slashdot Effect"!

An easier exam

Today I passed my driving theory test. Over the past two weeks I have had six driving lessons with my instructor plus some additional practice with my dad in his Skoda. I am on course to take and pass a practical driving test before the end of September which will mean I can drive when I move to Washington.
